CHORA is a site-specific dance film project that unfolds across a series of distinct yet interconnected places. Together, these locations form a narrative journey where the collective memory held within each site comes to life through invisible traces, tensions, histories, and possibilities for transformation. Inspired by the Platonic concept of chōra (χώρα)—understood not as emptiness, but as the original condition of a living, generative, and receptive space—the body does not simply occupy a place. Instead, it listens to it, moves through it, and is transformed by it.

CHORA is Komoco’s new dance film project, developed in collaboration with municipalities and cultural organizations in the Florence area. The project aims not only to bring audiences closer to the language of contemporary dance, but also to encourage a renewed discovery and interpretation of local landscapes and cultural heritage. It explores the relationship between body, environment, and historical memory through an immersive visual language.

By bringing dance and cinema into dialogue, CHORA uses contemporary performance as a powerful tool for enhancing shared cultural heritage. At the same time, it seeks to expand and diversify audiences by stimulating curiosity and creativity while overcoming physical, economic, and geographical barriers to cultural participation.

Ultimately, CHORA is conceived as a replicable model for telling the stories of places and enhancing their cultural value. It offers a creative tool that encourages new ways of experiencing and understanding landscapes, contributing to the creation of a shared, contemporary, and deeply human cultural imagination.
